Pingping Li, the vice president of CUP06 SC of AAPG, China, give an outline of Sequence Stratigraphy, reviewed the history and the latest progresses of this subject (Fig. right). He proposed that, to identify sequence boundaries is critical to set up a framework of the strata in a studied area. These boundaries can be recognized by several characteristics, especially in the field. As an example, the field work in the West of Sichuan Basin, as well as in the front of Longmen Shan Mountain, West China, is introduced (Fig. right).

Topic 2, An Introduction of AAPG and the Student Chapter, by Xuefeng ZHANG

Xuefeng ZHANG, the president of CUP06 SC of AAPG, China, made a brief introduction of AAPG and the student Chapter program, in order to tell those chapter members and those who want to join in why to join this international society, what kinds of supports AAPG can offer, and what to do to be an active student member (Fig. left). He emphasized that, only everybody of this association remain active, can every one gets something from it. To TAKE, not to ACCEPT.

Second program is Presentation “Why Earthquake Happens” has been executed in July 27th, 2006 in Beluk village, Bayat, Central Java. The speaker is Mr. Agus Hendratno ST. MT. (Geological Engineering Department UGM) and was attended by 40 participants from village community. This program’s summary is Indonesia is a country which located in earthquake zone so we must build houses with good construction in order to minimization the impact of earthquake.

The third program is “Presentation about Earthquake” which has been executed in September 10th, 2006 in SMP N 2 Yogyakarta. The speakers of this program are AAPG SC UGM members (Ridho Feraldo and Erick Prim) and was attendance by 40 students. The summary of this program is Indonesia is a country which located in earthquake zone so we must build houses with good construction in order to minimization the impact of earthquake. First things to do when earthquake happens is don’t panic, walk to outside of house and protect your head with both of your hand.

But as word about the course grew, attendees have included CEOs, lawyers, secretaries, bankers, engineers, investors, investment brokers, geotechs, accountants, journalists and just about every other flavor of non-geologist who touch the world of a petroleum geologist — even wives, husbands and EXPLORER reporters. Evidence against the Dorag (mixing-zone) model for dolomitization along the Wisconsin arch-A case for hydrothermal diaganesis
Field, petrologic, and geochemical evidence indicates that carbonates near the Wisconsin arch, the type locality for mixing-zone (Dorag) dolomitization in ancient rocks, are genetically linked to the MVT and K-silicate minerals of the region and were produced by a Late Devonian-Mississippian regional hydrothermal system. Pervasive dolomitization with subsequent hydrothermal alteration in the Clarke Lake gas field, Middle Devonian Slave Point Formation, British Columbia, Canada
Evidence and criteria for the recognition of hydrothermal alteration of dolostones is presented and applied to the Clarke Lake gas field, British Columbia, to demonstrate that many dolomites previously interpreted as hydrothermal are likely hydrothermal alteration products of older dolostones formed in colder fluids. Fractured hydrothermal dolomite reservoirs in the Devonian Dundee platform carbonates, Deep Panuke reservoir, Nova Scotia, Canada
Secondary porosity within dolostones in the Deep Panuke field of the Abenaki Formation, offshore Nova Scotia, resulted from post-stylotization dissolution of dolomite in a deep-burial setting. Three-dimensional seismic-based definition of fault-related porosity development Trenton-Black River interval, Saybrook, Ohio
3-D seismic and wireline data are integrated to document the relationship between porosity development and fault geometry at Saybrook field, Ohio. Burial dolomitization and dissolution of Upper Jurassic Abenaki Formation of the central Michigan Basin
Carbonate reservoirs within the Mississippian Madison Formation of Montana and Wyoming contain abundant fractures and breccias produced by explosive injection of fluid during crustal shortening. Rapid precipitation of carbonate cement reduced porosity and permeability resulting in locally unpredictable horizontal flow barriers and compartments. Tectonic-hydrothermal brecciation associated with calcite precipitation and permeability destruction in Mississippian carbonate reservoirs, Montana and Wyoming
Chemical analyses of oil, gas, and condensate recovered from upper Miocene sandstones in the deep-water Kutei Basin, Indonesia, indicate a land-plant source.
