The AAPG Imperial Barrel Award (IBA) is an annual basin/prospect evaluation competition for geoscience graduate students. The programme is rigorous and contributes to AAPG’s mission of promoting petroleum geoscience training and providing geoscience students with experience of the industry.

The recipients from our region for 2010 are Justin MacDonald of the University of Adelaide who obtained a grant from the Gordon I. Atwater Memorial Grant and Sam Hemmings-Sykes of the Victoria University of Wellington who received one from the Wallace E Pratt Memorial Grant. The Student Chapter at Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia has completed a course in February. The theme was Enhanced Oil Recovery, and the speakers were Prof. Ir. Suryo Purwono, M.Sc, Ph.D (UGM), Dr. Bob Wikan (Pertamina EP), Dr. I Putu Suarsana, and Mrs. Grace Stepahi Titaley (Pertamina EP).
